Things You Could Be Doing Wrong With Your Hair Extensions

We share styling tips and hair care advice with all our customers, but we also try to be of help to them if they go wrong somewhere with their set of human hair extensions.  There are some mistakes most people end up doing, which is why we chose to do this article, so you don’t end up ruining your hair extensions.  Let’s take a look at the most common mistakes.

Using wrong products

The products you use on your natural hair are not necessarily safe to use for your real human hair extensions.  Since you may not wash your hair extensions that often, using products will cause a buildup in the hair, which leads to dullness and the hair being sticky.  The hair will get weighed down and any kind of curling or styling won’t last.  We suggest you check with your hair extension expert which products you can use and which you must avoid.

Not brushing the extensions properly

The best brush to use especially with clip – in hair extensions is the loop brush.  This kind of brush won’t pull or snap the hair and is a very good investment.  Brush the hair extensions from the ends upwards to detangle the hair, avoiding any damage.

Burning your hair extensions

If you use heated tools that are way too hot, you could be causing serious damage to your extensions.  The keratin bonds in the hair get affected which leads to breakage and brittle ends.  To avoid this, always use a heat protectant spray every time you use these tools and check with your stylist for the optimum temperature for heat styling.

You are not taking out your extensions

Clip on human hair extensions are designed in a way that they cannot be worn 24/7.  We always tell our clients to never wear them while working out or sleeping, as the clips could cause some discomfort, get caught in the hair, which could cause breakage.  Its best to take off the clips, and store it in a box or

You are washing them too often

Your custom- made human hair extensions need not be washed as often as your own hair as this can cause the extensions to dry out.  If you use the right products suggested by your hair expert, there won’t be any excess product build up anyways.  So whatever you do need to wash, follow the instructions provided by the hair extension expert and always use a sulfate free shampoo and sulfate free conditioner, as these are gentle on the hair.  Each of the wefts must be washed and conditioned individually as advised by the professional.

You blow- dry them often

Natural hair receives nourishment through hair follicles, but not your hair extensions.  Blow Drying strips your hair of moisture.  Hence its important to keep the extensions nourished and avoid using the dryer as much as possible.  Comb through the wefts, then lay them flat on a towel and leave them to air dry.
